Alto Golf Club
Designed by Henry Cotton, Alto Golf Club is just a 5 minute drive away from the Apartments at Alto Country Club. As you would expect it is a really well designed course with extremely testing greens.
The course is not long although it does play host to one of Europe's longest par 5 holes. The 16th is suitably named Gigantica and at 600 metres long takes three enormous blows to reach. It's one of those holes that you would love to see the professionals play. The remaining par 5's are all reachable in two so there are plenty of birdie opportunities. Accurate driving is still necessary though as wayward drives are punished.
The Key To Good Scoring
The Par 3's are probably the key to good scoring at Alto Golf Club. There are 5 par 3's in total so playing these in 15 shots has a great impact on your card. All are fairly easy except for the 200 metre 7th Hole which is an extremely tough hole and well protected by huge bunkers. Don't be too dissapointed to walk off here with a 4 - there are plenty of chances to make it up.
Take advantage also of the Pro Tips on the playing card before you play each hole! they are very useful and if you read them after you have played a hole you will definitely kick yourself
In the past the condition of the course has often been criticised but the recent take over by Pestana has already had a positive effect and the course is well worth a visit. The bar and resteraunt facilities are excellent, good value and have great views of the 18th Green.
